our Layering SYSTEM

The BEYOND® Layering System is a complete 8-layer technical survival clothing system, designed to optimize human performance in the worst climatic conditions. Purpose-built fabrics provide breathability and fast drying across every layer, protection from the elements, and functionality in climates as low as -70°F. Our system can take you anywhere in the world in 5 layers or less.

The Complete 8 LAYERS

Click on a layer below to learn more about how it functions in the system.

L1 - BASELAYERS

L1 - BASELAYERS

Baselayers are the foundation of our layering system. An L1 keeps you cool during periods of high output, and they’re the starting point for your system’s moisture transport and heat retention.

L2 - MIDWEIGHT BASELAYERS

L2 - MIDWEIGHT BASELAYERS

Our Midweight Baselayers are warmer, slightly heavier alternatives to standard Baselayers, and can be layered over an L1 for extra heat retention without sacrificing breathability.

L3 - ACTIVE INSULATION

L3 - ACTIVE INSULATION

The workhorse layer when it comes to insulation. A midweight performance L3 provides exceptional heat retention while on the move and can also be used as a wind-resistant outer layer depending on the environment.

L4 - WIND PROTECTION

L4 - WIND PROTECTION

The lowest layer in the system designed first and foremost as outerwear. An L4's lightweight packability combines with wind- and water-resistant protection to make it an ideal choice for rapidly changing climates.

L5 - SOFTSHELLS

L5 - SOFTSHELLS

The working layer of your system, an L5 is responsible for the final step of kicking your moisture to the outside. Protection from the elements is balanced against breathability and mobility, making this the go-to protective layer when on the move.

L6 - RAIN PROTECTION

L6 - RAIN PROTECTION

L6 Rain layers offer complete wind and water protection in active and static environments. These garments have fully taped waterproof seams. Our L6 layers are also extremely packable and abrasion resistant.

L7 - STATIC INSULATION

L7 - STATIC INSULATION

An L7 is a fortress against extreme-cold environments. Durable construction fight off rain and wind, and excellent, fast-drying insulation retains heat even while wet.

L8 - POLAR INSULATION

L8 - POLAR INSULATION

Our absolute toughest protection against the cold, an L8 is designed to retain warmth in climates as low as -70°F. Temperature-regulating insulation and windproof but still breathable micro ripstop make this an ideal layer in both active and static circumstances.

LAYER DESIGNATIONS

Each of our 8 layers has a quick-reference label in the name to show where it sits in a system. Here’s how to read those labels:

L1

L = Layer, our general term in the system builder

A = Layer from our AXIOS System

K = Layer from our KYROS System

1 = Where the layer sits in a system, with 1 being next-to-skin and 8 being outermost

This is a quick reference to a garment’s function and where it sits in the layer stack

L = Layer.

A = AXIOS Made in USA Layer.

*A9-T is not Made in USA, but is TAA compliant.

L1

1 = Where the layer sits in a system, with 1 being next-to-skin and 8 being outermost.

This is a quick reference to a garment’s function and where it sits in the layer stack.

EXAMPLES:

L6 = 6th layer of any system (basic reference)

L5 = 5th layer in the System (L5 - Testa Softshell Jacket)

A3 = 3rd layer in the System (A3- Alpha Lochi)
